Just as the city of Atlanta was issuing stay-at-home orders, Kinship Care Attorney Currey Hitchens was working to get a few adoptions and guardianships in place. Although adoption hearings had been determined to be nonessential in most counties, Currey knew that securing these adoptions would mean more stability and peace of mind for the families during this tumultuous time. Just under the wire, Currey was able to get the judges to sign the orders without a hearing given the circumstances, and the families were able to rest a bit easier knowing that their families were stable and safe.
